What you are looking at is quite probably the most qualified group of cooler experts maybe ever assembled on the face of the earth. Believe it! These people know coolers. Why? Because they need coolers. Not like you and I need coolers. They NEED coolers. And they need coolers that PREFORM BIG TIME! For them, It’s not just a matter of cold beer, (I’m not saying cold beer isn’t important now – don’t get me wrong), but for this group, it’s a matter of survival! It’s a matter of Duck Eggs Benedict w/ Galilee Royal Osetra Caviar. It’s a matter of Ranch House Elk Chili. It’s a matter of Linguini in Clam Sauce, Frozen Melon Margaritas, and it’s a matter of Crisp Lettuce Wedge with Garden Fresh Tomatoes on day 24. Put it this way – if necessity were the mother of invention, then these are the necessary mothers for whom the invention became a cooler! Who are they you ask? They’re not sayin’. They’ve got their reasons. We only know them as Team Polar Bear. Personally, I think they are all on the lam, not running from the law in most cases, but from society in general. Hey, it was an election year …and we did find a “Band on the Run” CD at the put in.
But it’s not what they are running from, it’s what they are headed for that got our attention. And what they are headed for is BIG Adventure! 25 days in the Grand Canyon. This elite group of adventurist and expert waters-men and women mean business when it comes to extreme living! And they mean business when it comes to keeping cool. Because in case you haven’t been down there in, oh the last 6 million years or so, the Grand Canyon is unforgiving. Remote, tranquil, hot and furious, it’s one of the most beautiful and challenging places on earth.
It takes a special breed to venture into the unknown, relying only on your instinct and your gear. A breed that isn’t complacent sitting on the porch. A breed that is driven to push the limits and test the boundaries of their surroundings, a breed who truly believes, that if it’s worth living for, it’s worth dying for, and a breed that knows how to have a damn good time doing it! We call that special breed Team Polar Bear. And maybe it’s true we don’t know all of their names, or where they came from. I can tell you one thing we do know. After 25 days in the Grand Canyon, that Ace Upholstery will never be the same!
How do they do it?
Three coolers are dedicated to block ice alone. Block ice that can be chiseled for making drinks, or cooling purified drinking water. Not just any block ice, crystal clear pure solid block ice, provided by an Ice sculptor of course (hey – when you’re Team Polar Bear you know people).
Since there is no practical way of carrying drinking water for 15 people spanning a 25 day excursion into the Grand Canyon, the drinking water is purified using portable charcoal purification filter hand pumps.
There is no shortage of drinking water in the Grand Canyon, if you know where to look. There is only a WATER MANAGEMENT challenge with the drinking OF the water in the Grand Canyon. For most people the problem isn’t having too little drinking water, but having too much at one time. You may want to make sure you avoid this problem by staying in the boat! However, with this group, depending on who you’ve selected to be your partner, you may still find that it is possible to have too much to drink, even though you never left the boat.
As the days rations become available, the smaller portions are broken down and divided up into soft coolers for personal convenience and easy access. Not just any soft coolers – Polar Bear Soft Coolers. Polar Bear Coolers allow for quick easy access while providing superior Closed-Cell Foam insulation and rugged waterproof durability. Additionally, The Polar Bear Coolers are anti-microbial and super easy to keep clean.
